Sponsored by Pfizer, the Leaders in Pharmacy initiative recognizes pharmacy professionals with vision and drive who are making great strides for the profession.
Representing community practice, academic institutions, businesses and professional associations, the 11 leaders in pharmacy came together to discuss themes and issues relating to the profession. This year’s theme was Customer Loyalty and Adherence, an important topic as the list of services pharmacists offer continues to grow.
School of Pharmacy Hallman Director David Edwards was recognized for his work in providing “real-world training for a new generation”.
Dr. Edwards explains the role that the School of Pharmacy plays in improving patient adherence:
“We spend quite a bit of time in our courses helping students to work with patients in order to identify and overcome barriers to adherence,” he explains. “It’s essential that patients have regular communication with healthcare providers they trust. That promotes adherence and we emphasize that with our students.”
Regional Clinical Coordinator (RCC) Donnie Edwards was also recognized for his service-first mentality about patient-care. As an RCC, Edwards helps coordinate School of Pharmacy patient care rotations in the Niagara region. For more on Donnie’s experiences and thoughts on adherence, see the PharmacyU profile.
John Papastergiou, Adjunct Professor with the School of Pharmacy, was also recognized as a pharmacy leader. In addition to being owner-operator of two busy urban Shoppers Drug Marts, Papastergiou is an award-winning researcher. See more on Papastergiou on the PharmacyU profile.
Congratulations to 2017’s Leaders in Pharmacy!
