Talk Title: An Introduction to quantum thermodynamics
Abstract:
Quantum mechanics has propelled diverse fields to achieve unthinkable feats such as generating images of internal organs, solving classically intractable algorithms, and the abundance of laser-based applications. What can be achieved by extending thermodynamics to include nanoscale systems and quantum effects? This is the question that quantum thermodynamics looks to address.
In this seminar, I'll introduce the foundational ideas of the field and review three subfields that received significant attention to date: fluctuation relations, single-shot thermodynamics, and quantum thermal machines. This seminar is meant to serve as an entry point into the field.
