Today there are few greater frontiers of discovery than in the field of astrophysics. Using astronomical observations and theoretical reasoning, researchers at the Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics (WCA) help to unlock the mysteries of the Universe. They solve problems in areas including the origin and fate of the Universe, the nature of dark matter, black hole dynamics and thermodynamics, gravitational waves and gravitational lenses, the properties of stars and interstellar matter, the formation of galaxies, stars and solar systems and the unification of General Relativity and quantum mechanics.
