The senior leadership team at the University is committed to keeping you informed of progress being made on the actions we are implementing following the hate-motivated attack at Hagey Hall. We are grateful for the feedback we have heard so far and we will continue to listen as we move ahead.

In a shocking attack at approximately 3:40 p.m., a member of our campus community stabbed a professor and two students with a knife in Hagey Hall. All three people were taken to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.  

In 2021 the Ontario government passed Bill 27, which changed the Employment Standards Act, 2000 and requires employers including the University to prepare and implement a written “policy” for all employees on disconnecting from work.

The University of Waterloo launched its pilot Equity Survey in June 2021 and paused data collection after October 31, 2021 with an intention to continue data collection in early 2022. Launching the survey took much energy and work from many across our campuses.

As you may be aware, though we recently extended our proof of vaccination requirement until the end of the Winter term, the University will not require proof of vaccination in order to come to campus from May 1, onwards.

We are entering an important part of the spiritual year for many individuals and faiths. Recognizing important religious days is important as we support every member of our community to feel like they belong here.
