1-generic reals are a special effective case of Cohen generic reals. They were introduced by Jockusch but they been used before that in Kleene-Post construction of two incomparable degrees. We will talk about them in more detail and prove some basic results.

This week we will talk about projective schemes. First we will see our familiar construction of projective spaces by glueing affine pieces. Then we will use a more convenient (or more painful) construction by graded rings and homogeneous ideals.

"On class numbers of quadratic fields"

The study of class numbers of real and imaginary quadratic fields 
in an important problem in number theory, and its rich history 
goes back to the work of Gauss. In this talk, I will review the 
history of this subject and present recent results on these class 
numbers, notably on their large values, moments and distribution.

"Jumps, Bounds and Inversions"

In this talk, I will explain some basic results about jump inversion as applied to a non-standard reducibility, the bounded Turing reduction. We will see that some standard results fail, and attempt to remedy this by modifying the jump operator to make it more compatible with the reduction. Along the way, we will encounter the Ershov hierarchy, problems with relativization, and a frightening definition.
