The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Canadian Lung Association have awarded Dr. David Hammond, a professor in the School of Public Health Sciences, $2 million to examine the health impact of vaping among more than 1,000 young people who will be followed over a two-year period.

The Government of Canada announced $10 million in funding to Waterloo researchers for discovery and applied research in engineering, natural sciences, health and social sciences.

Dr. Charmaine Dean, professor in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science in the Faculty of Mathematics, and vice-president, research and international at the University of Waterloo, was bestowed the rank of Chevalier (Knight) in the prestigious Ordre des Palmes académiques (Order of Academic Palms) – France’s national order recognizing exemplary services to education and cultural heritage.

Marek Stastna, a professor of Applied Mathematics and his team have been awarded $1.65 million in funding for an NSERC Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) program.

University of Waterloo researchers Trevor Charles and Andrew Doxey have been awarded more than $1.5 million as part of a larger multi-institute team, led by the University of Windsor, aimed at changing the game in wastewater analysis.

Eight Waterloo researchers receive $25,000 each to develop health-tech solutions for Grand River Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital and the KW4 Ontario Health Team 

Recently, Waterloo researchers were awarded more than $37.3 million to support their research projects.  

The announcement was made by the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Transport and Quebec Lieutenant, on behalf of the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry at l’Université de Montréal. 

Adam Wei Tsen, professor at the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) and the Department of Chemistry at the University of Waterloo, has received the prestigious 2024 Dorothy Killam Fellowship to help advance transformational research of 2D quantum materials and devices.
