A University of Waterloo alumnus has received a prestigious award recognizing his efforts in advancing self-flying planes through his Toronto-based startup.

Jeremy Wang was presented with the Mitacs Change Agent Entrepreneur Award at a ceremony last night and was one of five recipients of a Mitacs Entrepreneur Award who are being recognized for turning their research into an innovative business that impacts the lives of Canadians.

The Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) was in Waterloo Region this week to announce that the Federal government is making a $22 million investment to help rebuild Canada’s pandemic battered aeronautics sector and lead it toward a more sustainable future.

Waterloo’s globally recognized startup program Velocity launched an initiative that aims to help new companies in the health-tech sector access funding and get products and services in the hands of those who need them.

The initiative – Velocity Health – was officially launched at a kickoff event at the University of Waterloo. The latest stream of the Velocity suite of platforms was created to address the key challenges health-tech startups face.
