University of Waterloo Class or Group In-Person Education Sessions

Representatives from the Office of Research Ethics are available to speak with undergraduate and graduate classes, lab groups, faculty groups or others on the following topics:

  • Ethics Clearance for Research with Human Participants  Researchers will learn when ethics clearance is necessary and the core principles of conducting ethical research with human participants. Participants will learn how to apply for ethics clearance using the UWaterloo system as well as tips and best practices for crafting a strong ethics application which can speed ethics clearance time. This workshop is relevant to researchers who collect any type of data from human participants. Priority for this workshop will be given to groups who are likely to apply for ethics clearance in the next 12 months.
  • Responsible Conduct of Research and Research Integrity  Attendees will learn to identify the types of research behaviours that constitute a breach to the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Framework. Participants will learn what to do if they suspect a breach, and how to avoid the most common allegations of misconduct. The workshop will also address negotiating authorship with integrity. This workshop is relevant to all researchers, regardless of methods or discipline.
