MS365 Storage limits for Retirees

What is happening?
Microsoft has recently implemented a substantial reduction in cloud storage allocated to Higher Education institutions worldwide. As a result, University of Waterloo must reduce the overall amount of storage used across campus to align with Microsoft’s policies. This change will impact all University employees, students, alumni, retirees, and generic accounts. Revised storage limits will vary between these groups.

Which services are impacted?

As a retiree, the new storage limits will impact your University email account (Outlook).

What does this mean to me?
You will need to ensure the amount of data stored in Outlook remains below the allocated limit (see steps below). An error message will appear when logged in to your M365 portal (portal.office.com) if you are over approaching/quota with advice on how to free up space.

Important: Exceeding this new limit may affect your ability to store and/or send messages beginning June 23. See tips for reducing quotas linked below

When will this change take place for Retirees?
Beginning Monday, June 23, 2025.

What are my revised quotas?
As a retiree of the University, your revised quota is:

Microsoft application: Retiree Email
New storage quota: 25 GB
