Women who shaped Waterloo Region

Women Who Shaped Waterloo Region is a series of HERstory walking tours in Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo to feature the contributions, accomplishments and impact that women have had on our local history. So often, local history is told through the efforts of men, but these walking tours will change that, putting women’s efforts front & centre! I’m so excited about these!

When:

Cambridge Women’s History: Bridging the Gap—Saturday, October 4 | 2 – 4pm

Kitchener Women’s History: A Broad Story!—Saturday, October 18 | 2 – 4pm

Waterloo Women’s History: Seen & Heard—Saturday, October 25 | 2 – 4pm

Information can be found on the stroll walking tours website

You can also share the events from Facebook or share this reel on Instagram.

Please tell anyone & everyone you can think of who might be interested in these tours. We want to fill them to capacity so that more people can learn about the incredible women in our communities.

 Why October?

  • Many people don't know that Women's History Month takes place in October in Canada (it's March in the United States & International Women’s Day is in March, also.
  • Women's History Month was designated in 1992 to commemorate The Person's Case of 1929.
  • 2025 is the 50th anniversary of the UN International Women's Year (1975), which, at the time, highlighted discrimination against women and bringing attention to equal rights, childcare needs and rights of women to participate in economic and social development.....not much has changed!
  • Many communities overlook the significance of women's history and most local history is told through the efforts of men. Let’s change that!

These walking tours have been developed with the support of the Waterloo Regional Heritage Foundation.
