Internship organization and designation: Economic Development Officer (Intern), Town of Lincoln, Ontario
Roles and responsibilities: During his internship with the Town of Lincoln, he was premarily working on creating and developing a detailed business retention and expansion (BR+E) strategy for the Towns economic development department. His main summer initiative has been the business walks strategy, which is an activity dedicated to learning more about the local business environment through face-to-face informal interviews conducted by the Towns Councillors and members of the Economic Development Dept throughout the community. Some of his other tasks and responsibilities include preparing documents, policy proposals and presentations for the Mayor and city council with regards to bylaw amendments, and business and community development.
Whats next: He strongly believe in contributing to effective team output through cooperation, collaboration, and a commitment to shared vision and values. He is looking forward to exploring future oppotunities where he can apply his skills and abilities in the world of economic development.
How MEDI helped: The MEDI program has provided me with the enhanced knowledge, tools, and understanding of the field of Economic Development to positively contribute to the role and responsibilities of an Economic Development Officer at the municipal, provincial, federal, and international levels. My experiences inside and outside of the classroom at the University of Waterloo have definitely made an impact on my ability to create sustainable and innovative solutions to overcome some of our communities most difficult challenges.
