Internship organization and designation: Policy Analyst, Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade
Roles and responsibilities: Shawn started as a policy co-op student but was quickly scooped up as a policy analyst. He scans and conducts research regarding business talent under the umbrella of regional development, job creation and trade. He gets to perform data visualization, provide insights into global talent initiatives and contribute to provincial initiatives that ensure businesses can tap into the skills, people and talent required for them to grow.
Whats next: Shawn plans to stay within the Ontario Public Service. One of the reasons: Being surrounded by an incredibly passionate and intelligent team makes this a great place for him to learn and work. He hopes to continue his growth within the regional development division.
How MEDI helped: The MEDI program gave me a suite of specific knowledge that is desirable in todays landscape. Being able to confidently speak to regional development challenges, having knowledge of common tools like Beyond 20/20 and understanding economic geography helped me secure this current position, and has helped me move up quickly within my team.
