Five students from the University of Waterloo's Faculty of Environment participated in a five-day field experience in Algonquin Park, hosted by the grassroots organization FREED. The program, designed to support Indigenous, Black, and racialized students, provided hands-on research opportunities and mentorship in ecology and environmental studies. Students engaged in activities such as bee research and aquatic sampling while learning from experts. The experience emphasized self-advocacy, diversity, and community building, empowering participants to pursue careers in environmental fields.
