Damian Sycz, a PhD candidate in Sociology is working with one of the largest police services in Canada as part of his dissertation research, to explore why individuals decide to become police auxiliary constables, and the ways in which police services can improve their recruitment tactics to target individuals with diverse backgrounds.

Title: Lost and found?: a digital archive of testimonies of migration, displacement, and resettlement 

Abstract: This project centres on the homes that have been lost and found by refugees of the recent Syrian crisis. Experiences of urban life are negotiated in particularly complex ways by refugees moving across regions and nations in pursuit of home. In these movements, they expand the dimensions of home.

Congratulations to Dr. Kate Henne who has received the 2018 Critical Criminologist of the Year Award from the American Society of Criminology. The 2018 Critical Criminologist of the Year Award honours an early-to-mid-career scholar whose distinguished accomplishments symbolize the spirit of critical criminology and social justice. It is based on the assessment of one’s scholarship, teaching, and/or service in recent years.
