The Department of Sociology and Legal Studies is hosting two Thrive Week events from November 2 to 6, 2020: the Nature Photography Challenge and the Fall and Wellness Scavenger Hunts. Thrive is a series of events focused on building positive mental health for University of Waterloo students, faculty and staff. We encourage the campus community to participate in Thrive events and focus on their wellbeing.

Location: Department of Sociology and International Development Studies Program, Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Please note, work is temporarily remote due to Covid19 related restrictions Duration of Work: 1 year (full-time) Start Date: Oct 1, 2020  Project Title: Violence against women migrants and refugees: Analyzing causes and effective policy response.

Damian Sycz, a PhD candidate in Sociology is working with one of the largest police services in Canada as part of his dissertation research, to explore why individuals decide to become police auxiliary constables, and the ways in which police services can improve their recruitment tactics to target individuals with diverse backgrounds.
