Pat Martin, the very first office manager for UWSA, passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener on Saturday January 30, 2016 at the age of 83. Pat enjoyed an 18-year career at the University of Waterloo in the Staff Association but her true passion was family and she took great pride and enjoyment in the successes of her children and grandchildren.

Staff Salary Settlement Update 2015

Staff Salary Settlement update:

The university and staff association have reached a tentative agreement for staff salaries starting May 1, 2015.

"The length of the agreement is for three years, until April 30, 2018. Terms of the agreement regarding scale are: 1.95 percent increase in each of the first two years, and 1.50 percent increase in the third year."

The UWSA provided Dr. Ian Orchard, Vice President Academic & Provost, with the following data based on the feedback collected from our membership. The UWSA Board of Directors recommended to the Provost that the current guidelines be re-evaluated and established as a University Policy. The development of such a Policy would allow for every stakeholder group on campus to have input and discussions on the issues noted below.

SRC to hold open-session meetings

The mandate of the Staff Relations Committee (SRC) at the University of Waterloo is:

"To serve as a mechanism for communication between those responsible for the staff relations function of the University and the University staff:  to discuss any matters of concern in respect to staff-University relations or staff working conditions;  to forward any suggestions arising from discussions to the appropriate University deliberative body or administrative unit [...]"

As approved by the UWSA membership at a Special General Meeting held in July 2013, UWSA fees are being converted from a three-tier flat rate scheme to a percentage of salary system.  This change is being implemented for the November payroll.

The University of Waterloo Staff Association held a Special General Meeting on July 23, 2013. Four separate motions were approved by the members present at the meeting resulting in the following changes:
