We are actively and frequently discussing this at the Provost's Advisory Committee on Staff Compensation (PACSC), where we are working hard to get a fair deal for staff. This university-level committee is confidential, so we can’t share the details of those discussions, but there have been several extra meetings in an effort to reach a recommendation for the provost.

We hope everyone is doing okay and getting any necessary support following yesterday’s incident in Hagey Hall.

An event like this affects us all in different ways and we encourage our members to be understanding and compassionate toward each other, today and over the coming days and weeks. There are campus and community resources available to support you (some are listed at the end of this message), and if these are insufficient, please let us know.

UWSA staff are developing a communication and engagement strategy for the Staff Association and we want YOUR ideas about how we can build community among members, improve transparency about the UWSA’s work, increase membership, and support you as a UW employee!

The UWSA Appointments Committee is seeking applications for staff representation for the following committees:

We welcomed two new staff members last month:

We have heard from staff about inequities as they relate to: 

• University closures 
• Working from home while sick,  
• Emergency Days, and 
• Access to equipment (e.g., a laptop computer) to work from home 

We'd like to get a clear picture of practices across the University and are asking you to share what you've experienced in these situations.

We are very pleased to announce that we have reached the finish line and are now working under an updated Memorandum of Agreement (PDF) following the approval of this agreement between UWSA and UWaterloo by the Board of Governors on October 25, 2022.

This journey began in 2016 and has included efforts of many dedicated members and a series of Consultations.
