Supporting your sexual health journey

There isn't a syllabus for relationships, dating, or sex. So how do you know what's right for you?

Whether you're dating, exploring your identity, sexually active, thinking about becoming sexually active or simply learning more about your options, having up-to-date information can help you make decisions that feel right for you.

Everyone's journey is different, and there's no "right" timeline when it comes to relationships, dating or sex. No matter where you're at, trust your instincts, know your boundaries, and never feel pressured to do anything you are uncomfortable with. It's your body and your choice.

Let’s talk safer sex

There are more options than ever when it comes to preventing unplanned pregnancy and protecting yourself from sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Knowing your options means you can make informed decisions that work for your body, lifestyle and relationships.

Remember:

  • There are many options available to prevent pregnancy. Find a contraceptive method that works for you.
  • Most birth control methods don't protect against STIs.
  • Use condoms and dental dams to reduce STI risk. They are available without a prescription at most local pharmacies.
    • Free condoms are available at Campus Wellness, Health Services.
  • Have open conversations about STI testing and sexual health. Don’t assume, ask.

Stay safe while you swipe

Meeting new people can be exciting, but your safety comes first. Whether you're using dating apps or meeting someone through a mutual connection, trust your instincts and keep safety top of mind so you can date with confidence.

Keep these tips in mind before meeting up:

  • Meet in a public spot for the first few dates.
  • Let a friend know where you’re going and who you’re meeting.
  • Have your own ride plan so you can leave whenever you want, without having to rely on your date.
  • Trust your gut. If something feels off, leave the situation.

Test, don't guess

Did you know that STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections) are infectious diseases that can be passed through different types of sexual activity? The good news: regular testing can help you stay informed, protect your health, and access treatment if needed.

Why get tested:

  • Early detection and treatment can reduce or prevent health complications caused by STIs.
  • Many STIs don’t show obvious signs and symptoms, so it's important to take precautions to protect both you and your partner.
  • Participating in sexual risk behaviours (condomless sex, sexual activity with more than one person or new partners whose sexual history is unknown, etc.) may increase your risk of getting an STI.

Safe sex is about more than protection. It's about understanding your boundaries, making informed decisions, communicating openly, and choosing what feels right for you. The more you know, the more confident you can be in the choices you make.

Remember, it's always okay to ask questions and get help when you need it.
