Emancipation Kick Up
Emancipation Kick Up is a vibrant gathering rooted in reflection, community, and forward movement. As Black students at the University of Waterloo, we come together to honor the legacy of those who came before us—individuals whose vision of emancipation extended beyond freedom toward a future shaped by access, opportunity, and self-determination. Their dream lives on in the spaces we now occupy, and our presence in higher education is a continuation of that vision. This event recognizes the significance of simply being here—learning, growing, and building pathways that were once out of reach—while creating a space for reflection, connection, food, and games as we come together in community.
This celebration invites us to reflect on how far we have come while energizing us for the journey ahead. Through music, shared experiences, and meaningful connection, Emancipation Kick Up reminds us that emancipation is an ongoing process lived through our ambitions and achievements. Come ready to celebrate, connect, and embrace your place in this legacy—food will be provided.
