Emancipation Kick Up

Emancipation Kick Up is a vibrant gathering rooted in reflection, community, and forward movement. As Black students at the University of Waterloo, we come together to honor the legacy of those who came before us—individuals whose vision of emancipation extended beyond freedom toward a future shaped by access, opportunity, and self-determination. Their dream lives on in the spaces we now occupy, and our presence in higher education is a continuation of that vision. This event recognizes the significance of simply being here—learning, growing, and building pathways that were once out of reach—while creating a space for reflection, connection, food, and games as we come together in community.
