Sustainability Leadership Certificate launches
The Sustainability Office was excited to announce the launch of the new Sustainability Leadership Certificate at Eco Summit 2024. The launch, announced by Director of Sustainability, Mathew Thijssen, comes as a direct result of the Phase 1 Report from the Sustainability Integration Working Group, where several key areas for sustainability curriculum integration were identified. One of the 11 recommendations from Phase 1 suggested exploring flexible co-curricular pathways for encouraging student participation.
The Sustainability Leadership Certificate provides students with an opportunity to participate in sustainability alongside their program of study. The Certificate promotes engagement with sustainability activities through leadership, learning, personal action, and professional experience.
Students who are interested in the Certificate are encouraged to self-register through LEARN. Completion of the Certificate requires students to earn points as they participate in various sustainability activities, all of which are uniquely weighted. Upon earning 4 points in each of the 4 categories, as well as a minimum of 20 points overall, students will be designated as Sustainability Leaders.
