Abstract | The purpose of this audit was to examine the effectiveness of the current recycling system within the Co-op building at the University of Waterloo. A recycling audit was completed of the main areas of the building. The recycling audit was performed on each day between the hours of 1pm and 5pm, over an eight day period. During this audit period, a number of observations were found that have allowed us to analyze and furthermore to develop recommendations regarding the recycling program within the co-op building. Generally, it was found that areas such as lounges and cafeterias have excellent recycling programs. However, we encountered areas such as photocopier rooms where recycling could improve a great deal. There were also areas throughout the building that had missing or incorrect signs relating to the recycling bins in these vicinities. Therefore, out recycling audit outlined areas where recycling programs are needed and the types of bins required for certain areas within the building. By using out recommendations of the co-op building as a guide, hopefully we may see changes to future recycling programs within new and old buildings to continue to recycle efficiently and effectively… For full text, please e-mail sustainability@uwaterloo.ca |
