Abstract

The purpose of this report is to convey the findings of two waste audits in connection with the University of Waterloo, Dana Porter Library Zero Waste Project, and to analyze the success of the program. A description of the project, the audit procedure, and recommendations synthesize the essence of this report. The review of the Zero Waste Pilot Project is intended to explain the actions involved in establishing such a program. The procedural description of the waste audits will interpret the techniques and benefits of such waste analyzing methods.  It is concluded that although the project has been successful in reducing waste, a great deal more could be accomplished by employing the recommendations put forth in this report. It is recommended that the library committees responsible for the project focus on improving the promotion, enthusiasm and logistics of the Zero Waste Project, to enhance and help it evolve into a model program that other institutions could adopt… For full text, please e-mail sustainability@uwaterloo.ca
