Abstract

The University of Waterloo (UW) is committed to reducing its waste production. Various committees and projects have been developed through the Waste Management Office to help achieve this goal. Waste audits are a useful tool to aid in this process… The purpose of this audit, part of a campus-wide audit, is to create a baseline description of UW’s waste and recycling practices, to improve effectiveness of existing programs and to design new programs where needed. The functional area audited in this study was Beck Hall, which is an apartment-style residence on UW’s South Campus. The methodology for this audit was originally intended to be guided by the waste audit done at Beck Hall in the summer of 2001. However, there were several limitations of that report that compared to the objectives of our study.
