SYDE grad student a finalist at GRADflix 2024

Systems Design Engineering (SYDE) master's student Mohammad Ahmed Basri is one of 15 finalists in this year's GRADflix competition. The annual event gives graduate students an opportunity to communicate their complex research in a creative video short. Check out Mohammad's video titled, The critical role of synthetic data in accelerating AI in health.

Mohammad's research, co-supervised but Dr. Helen Chen and Dr. Alexander Wong, specializes in applications of AI and ML in public health informatics, including infectious disease forecasting and medical outcome prediction. Mohammad is involved in the vision and image processing research lab a well as the digital intelligence for public health lab. He is dedicated to leveraging technology for business innovation and passionate about entrepreneurship. He is also an avid sports enthusiast, often found playing tennis or basketball outdoors. Alongside a keen interest in physical activities, he also has a passion for music, particularly playing the guitar.

GRADflix was launched in 2018 by the University of Waterloo’s Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA) and is supported by graduate students through the Graduate Studies Endowment Fund.
