Promotion Decisions are governed by the rules stated in the current university calendar [see here]. The following is an attempt to summarize the most frequently asked questions about those rules. For completeness, please consult the university calendar. Where there is a conflict with information summarized here, the university calendar will be taken as the authority.

Information below is current as of Fall 2011.

For all terms

More details on the consequences of the academic decisions specified above can be found in the Academic Decisions part of the university calendar [see here].

* Please note that if conditionally promoted the failed course(s) must be cleared before the condition is removed. No student may obtain the BASc or BSE degree with an academic decision including (Conditional) remaining on their record. See also point #3 in the university calendar statements on rules of promotion [see point #3 here].

** If extenuating circumstances significantly affect the student's performance in the failed term the term No Penalty may be appended to the decision to repeat a term. For consequences of a no penalty repeat term see point #5 here. If you think extenuating circumstances may apply, immediately consult with the SYDE Undergrad Chair.

*** Note that when repeating a term, you shall be excused from repeating individual courses in which a grade of 70% or better has been achieved. If this occurs, other appropriate courses, as approved by the department, must be taken, such that you take a full course load in the repeat term. The department may specify that the substitute course be any previously taken course for which the grade was less than 55%. [see point #4 here]
