International Student Work-Study Program Application

Eligibility requirements

You may use this form to apply to the work-study program if you are:

  • an international student with a valid study permit;
  • registered in an undergraduate program;
  • enrolled in a minimum 60% course load (1.5 units) during the term in which you want to work;
  • fees arranged or paid in full for the current term;
  • in satisfactory academic standing; and
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number from Service Canada (or receive one within three days of beginning work).

Job description

Position tasks and responsibilities

Qualifications
  • Must be skilled at dealing directly with personnel, patron and client situations in a tactful calm, respectful and authoritative manner.

Job description The Publicity & Outreach Assistant will work directly with the Director of Production & Theatre Operations to update the Department web site and support the publicity campaign for the department productions and events. The incumbent is responsible for adding content to the performance archives online; creating flyers and posters for events, and editing alumni profile videos. In the fall and winter terms, there is also a large component that is website creation on wix.com, which includes designing and implementing ideas from a student committee. Depending on the term, the incumbent will work on outreach events in either an administrative or a planning capacity.
Qualifications
  • This position requires high degree of self-discipline, personal initiative, and strong task organizational skills.
  • The ideal candidate would have experience creating/maintaining web pages – training in WCMS is an asset.
  • Applicant must have excellent interpersonal communication skills and skills related to working with multiple stakeholders (empathy & diplomacy).

Renison University College proudly offers the Moose Tracks Connection Desk – a front desk to support students. This service will be staffed by student leaders to provide front-line support specifically to Renison and University of Waterloo students.

We are hiring students in the role of Connection Desk Assistant for the fall 2024 term. The Connection Desk Assistant will work a rotating schedule with other staff between the hours of 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday. The Connection Desk Assistants will assist in the coordination of front-line customer service for student inquiries, as well as supporting the Renison Student Experience and Housing team with projects related to administrative support. This role requires excellent customer service and communication skills, and a sincere desire to help others.

The successful candidates will have the opportunity to enhance their client/customer service skills, while developing strong project management skills. The candidate will work collaboratively with multiple partners throughout Renison, including program managers and administrative staff, Student Experience and Housing staff, residence dons, and student peer leaders.

As a Connection Desk Assistant, you will assist students with:

  • Providing way-finding support throughout the college, including locating classrooms and common spaces throughout the college.
  • Supporting navigational advice to students for who to speak with regarding their courses at Renison as well as University of Waterloo student services.
  • Provide information about Renison events, including help with registration.
  • Daytime support with residence questions, including booking pool cues and ping pong paddles for the Moose Room.
  • The purchase of snacks, essential items, and Renison merchandise.

Provide Front-line Support for Students

  • Serve as a warm, welcoming, and accessible first point-of-contact to support students with their questions, provide direction, and assist with sales as necessary.
  • Assist students in meeting their social, academic and personal needs, and provide campus referrals to appropriate student services when needed.
  • Reinforce and role model an inclusive and welcoming environment that allows students to feel comfortable to approach with questions or concerns.

Documentation and Administration

  • Support staff with administrative tasks and responsibilities, including inputting meeting notes, survey result data, and providing analysis of survey data findings.
  • Where necessary, support pre-program logistics and preparations (gathering event materials, creating and posting signage, etc.).

Communications

  • Respond to all communications, including emails and virtual calls, from students and staff within one business day. Please note you may have to reply earlier for issues that need immediate attention.

Ensuring proper instructional signage, health & Safety and PPE supplies are organized and available. Follow WHMIS and SDS requirements and keeping current with safety regulations for material handling and storage.

Qualifications
  • This position requires a person of technical competence who will support the operations of the two theatrical shop & fabrication spaces run by the Theatre and Performance program (Carpentry Shop HH170 & Props Shop ML126).
  • The incumbent should be able to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders and operate power tools.
  • Intermediate ability with Microsoft Word and Excel is required. Incumbent should be safety oriented.
  • Prior knowledge of best practices for safe operation of basic hand tools and power tools is preferred.
  • Experience with Vectorworks drafting program is an asset but not required.
  • An aptitude for organizing and labeling is preferred.
