Important update regarding Spring convocation

This message was originally sent to spring graduands and their families by Feridun Hamdullahpur, president and vice-chancellor.

  • With deep regret, we will not be able to conduct in-person convocation ceremonies in June; they will be delivered in a different manner to celebrate our new alumni.
  • It’s important to update your address in QUEST as you will likely receive your diploma by mail.
  • You will have a chance to attend a ceremony at a later date.

Update About Your Spring 2020 Class Schedule

To help stop the spread of COVID-19, we made the important decision to proceed with spring term 2020 with no in-person course activity. This means that we will hold all classes and exams online (with the exception of CLN and PRA courses).

We want you to have a quality learning experience at Waterloo during these times of unprecedented change. We also want to make sure that you can continue to make progress towards earning your degree.

Drop/Add Period

Your class schedule and your Drop/Add Period appointment time will be available in Quest on April 1.

Revised important dates to note:

  • April 4 to May 25: add period for all students
  • April 8: tuition fee bills viewable in Quest

Spring 2020 classes online only

This message was originally sent to students by Feridun Hamdullahpur, president and vice-chancellor

  • Spring Term 2020 will continue online
  • Term will start on Monday, May 11 and will run for 12 weeks
  • We have cancelled in-class activity until the end of Spring Term
  • More information will come by the end of next week

We have made the difficult decision to continue with an alternative delivery system for Spring Term. This means that we are not going to deliver in-person course activity. All courses and exams, including graduate research milestones, will take place online.

I believe we need to do this to create some certainty during this uncertain time. We care about you and we want to make sure that we can continue to deliver a quality University of Waterloo academic experience during these extraordinary times.

I am sharing some important details about the new term with you now, but we plan to give you more comprehensive information on Spring Term by the end of next week.

Letter of Permission changes

The University of Waterloo has instituted a travel ban. If you are wishing to study at a post-secondary institution on Letter of Permission (LOP) for either spring or fall 2020, you will only be able to do so if the courses are being offered online or, for in-person classes, if you are already in the city where the institution is located (i.e., no travel is required) and the institution is operating. This will allow you to continue your studies if you have returned home. Review the University's travel advice on the Coronavirus Information website for an up-to-date information. Special note: If you already applied for a spring LOP and would like to withdraw your application, your application fee will be refunded. Contact to initiate the refund.
