Blocks are the different components on a page that display content. Blocks display content such as text, images, links, and more!

Explore our library for descriptions and samples of each block in the Waterloo Content Management System (WCMS).

  • Automatic lists allow a selected content type to be highlighted on any content page in a predetermined order.

  • Banner images are full-width images used to highlight content on your site. Multiple images can be added per block, with the option to add links, big text, and small text.

  • A Blockquote is used to format text attributed to a speaker. The quote text will appear in quotation marks with the attribution below.

  • A Call to Action (CTA) provides a small amount of text information, formatted as a link to influence users to interact with it.

  • The Catalog search allows users to search catalogs on a WCMS 3 site.

  • The CodePen external embed Block allows site visitors to view user-created HTML, CSS and JavaScript code.

  • Content teasers can be used to feature specific content on a page.

  • A Copy text block formats and styles text on a page.

  • Expand/collapse blocks organize content under headings. Users can click on an expandable content heading to display its information.

  • The Facebook external embed content allows users to add a single post or profile timeline to their content page.

  • The Facts and figures blocks is used to display facts and images in a hybrid style on pages.

  • Google Maps and Google My Maps are both supported content types in WCMS 3 and can be embedded onto content pages.

  • The Image block can be used to easily add images to your site with multiple options to scale and crop.

  • The Image gallery block can display a collection of images on a page, with browsing options in a slider or grid format.

  • The Instagram external embed content Block can feature specific posts from Instagram.

  • Links provide multiple different styling options for links, with the options to include icons and background images.

  • The Mailchimp Block type allows a site visitor to subscribe to a Mailchimp mailing list.

  • The Mailman subscription widget allows site visitors to add themselves to a mailing list using the Mailman subscription service.

  • Manual lists allow a user to select and order specific content to be highlighted on any content page.

  • Multi-type calendars allow for Blog posts, News items, and Events to be highlighted in a calendar on a content page.

  • Multi-type lists allow for recent Blog posts, News items, Events, and Opportunities to be highlighted on a content page.

  • The Project search allows users to search projects on a WCMS 3 site.

  • The Publication reference search allows users to search publication references on a WCMS 3 site.

  • A Remote video Block will add a video player to a page.

  • The Service search allows users to search services on a WCMS 3 site.

  • The Social Intents Block is a live chat solution for Slack and Microsoft Teams that allows interaction and engagement with website visitors using pop-ups, chatbots, chat widgets, canned responses and more. 

  • The Tableau visualization Block allows for graphs made on Tableau, a data visualization tool, to be added to a page. 

  • The Tags block can be used to highlight content for a specific audience or type of content.

  • A Timeline allows for content to be listed by its relevant date, presented in a vertical fashion with optional display elements.

  • Waterloo Events allows for content from Waterloo Events to be highlighted on any content page.

  • Waterloo News allows content from Waterloo News to be highlighted on any content page.

  • The X (formerly Twitter) external embed content allows users to add an embedded tweet, profile, or list to their page.
