WiCS Careers in Tech Panel 

The endless opportunities in tech can be quite overwhelming. That’s why UW WiCS will be hosting a Careers in Tech workshop with panelists from a variety of career tracks in tech. We have speakers who can talk about careers in medical imaging, digital forensics, fintech, gaming/VR, film and entertainment, and graduate studies/research. Join us to learn more about diverse careers where you can apply your technological skills, and remember to bring any questions you may have. This event is open to all UW students.

The Magic of YOU on Social Media (with Wish!) 

Wish is joining us to host a workshop about social media and establishing your presence! The workshop will be hosted by Paris Kim, Wish's Social Media Manager. This workshop will educate on creating a presence on Twitter or Instagram- how companies & brands use these platforms as well as how individuals can successfully use their platforms to build their own brand.

TechNova’s Women+ in Tech Hackathon 

Join TechNova for the University of Waterloo's first global Women+ in Tech Hackathon! This virtual event is open to all women and non-binary identifying students from around the world. No coding experience is necessary! If you are in high school, college, university, or any non-traditional background, you are invited!  

This event will take place from: 

August 27-29, 2021

The application deadline is July 12, 2021 at 11:59 PM EST. There are a limited number of spots and acceptances go out on a rolling basis - so make sure to apply early!  

 

Incoming First Years Event 

To welcome our incoming first year WiCS, we will be hosting an event dedicated to welcoming them and helping them transition! This event will give some guidance in terms of important topics such as remote learning and course selection, as well as a game night/social to have some fun and connect! Feel free to give any incoming first year students a heads up about this event! The date and time of this event are TBD, but will likely take place sometime near the end of July! Stay tuned! 
 

Involvement in WiCS Fall Initiatives 

WiCS is looking for upper year students who want to get involved in WiCS activities this upcoming Fall term! We have various initiatives that will be taking place including Bubbles, Orientation, WiCS Con and Student Profiles on the WiCS Instagram and website. Please fill out this form if you are interested in taking part in any of these initiatives. Please note, this is limited to UW students.

Fridays Campus Resource Features on Instagram 

Every Friday, on the WiCS Instagram, we will be posting a helpful and useful campus resource available to students on our story! These will include academic resources, co-op and career advice resources, health and wellness resources, and more! Make sure you are following our Instagram account in order to check these Friday Features out!

WiCS Hangouts 

Come join WiCS committee members and hang out with us! We’ll be hanging out in our Discord voice channel, where you can come ask us about anything and everything. Feel free to ask us for any advice, take a look at your resume, or just hop on for a quick chat to de-stress! 

Our hangouts hours are:  

Monday 8:30-9:30 PM, Tuesday 6-7 PM, Thursday 8-9 PM, Friday 10-11 AM 

Hangouts take place in the WiCS Discord, in the “hangout-hours” voice channel! 

 
 

Google’s Hardware Development Internship for Fall 2021 

Google is now accepting applications on a rolling basis for this 12-14 week internship. Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful. Their Devices & Services team combines the best of Google AI, Software, and Hardware to create radically helpful experiences for users. They research, design, and develop new technologies and hardware to make our user's interaction with computing faster, seamless, and more powerful. Whether finding new ways to capture and sense the world around us, advancing form factors, or improving interaction methods, the Devices & Services team is making people's lives better through technology. 

 

The teams you will work with design, develop and deploy next generation consumer hardware while ensuring that this cutting-edge equipment is reliable. You’ll work closely with engineers to improve our hardware to meet Google's standards of quality and reliability. Your work will have the potential to impact many of Google users. Depending on your experience, you may have an opportunity to work on a project in ASIC Hardware/Software Engineering, Electrical Hardware Engineering, Hardware Test Engineering, Formal Verification Engineering, Silicon Engineering or Acoustics.
