Solidago flexicaulis L. is a colony forming woodland goldenrod native central eastern North America.  The upper stem is distinctive bent at the nodes (Semple & Cook 2006 FNA).  Cook & Semple (2008) discussed the cytogeography of the species that includes diploid 2n=18 and tetraploid 2n=36 plants that tend to be allopatrically distributed.
