Downy Ragged Goldenrod
Solidago petiolaris var. petiolaris is the only variety of the species native to the southeastern U.S. east of the Mississippi; its ranges is disjunct in scattered populations in eastern Texas. The lower stem leaves can have serrations, but these are smaller than those of S. buckleyi. Upper stem leaves are nearly lack serrations. Its phyllaries are usually moderately strigose and sometimes also glandular. Stems are moderately densely short villose-strigose. Var. angusta and var. wardii occur west of the Mississippi.
