Ward's Downy Ragged Goldenrod
Solidago petiolaris var. wardii (Britt.) Fern. occurs from northeastern New Mexico and adjacent Colorado to eastern Kansas and south to panhandle and west Texas and western Oklahoma. Inflorescence range from few headed arrays to elongated narrow many-headed arrays depending upon growing conditions. Leaves are like those of var. petiolaris be usually smaller. Phyllaries are very sparsely to moderately strigose and not strongly resinous. Var. angusta also occurs west of the Mississippi, while and var. petiolarisoccurs from eastern Texas to Florida and North Carolina. Ranges of distribution are shown on the S. petiolaris page.
