Solidago rugosa var. cronquistiana

Cronquist's Rough-leaf or Wrinkle-leaf Goldenrod

Solidago rugosa var. cronquistiana Semple is native to higher elevations in the southern Appalachian Mts.  Inflorescences are narrow, proximal branches do not much exceed the subtending leaves; herbage is sparsely hairy (Semple & Cook 2006 FNA). The variety is known only at the tetraploid level (2n=36).  Longer branched inflorescences are similar to short-branched inflorescences of var. aspera. The variety was named in honor of the late Arthur Cronquist of the New York Botanical Garden.
