Departmental Printer-Copier-Scanners

The department maintains 3 Ricoh printer/copiers that are capable of network printingcopyingscanning documents to email and printing from USB storage. The department also provides a printer/copier for  graduate student and visitor use that is maintained by the campus Wprint service. Wprint does not support printing from USB storage.

Access Codes

ChemEngPrinterMainOfficeE6, ChemEngPrinterDWE and ChemEngPrinterQNC require an access code available from Erene Georgiou x42404.  This access code is used to account for and charge the cost of consumables for printing and copying. Scanning to email incurs no charges. All of these printers also have access restrictions based on your Nexus account as noted above in the description column.

Chegradxerox requires a Watcard with sufficient funds or  a prepaid Wprint guest card available from the Library  and then add the funds to a Wprint account  for those visitors who are not eligible for a Watcard. The current pricing for Wprint Black,Color printing and Scan to email is $0.10, $0.45 and $0.02 per page respectively.

How to Print - Windows, OSX, Linux PC

Your computer must be connected to one of the UW wired, wireless or VPN network services. To print to any of these printers you must first connect to the printer, install the printer driver to your computer and creates an instance of this printer. Then you must enter your access code in the printer preferences for that new printer instance. 

Windows PC

  1. Install the printer instance and driver
    • type \\cheprint in the Windows "Type here to search"box and then double click one of ChemEngPrinterMainOfficeE6, ChemEngPrinterDWE, ChemEngPrinterQNC to begin the driver installation. 
      • If prompted for your credentials enter them as nexus\WatiamID
  2. Wait for the printer instance creation to complete. 
  3. Set your Access code 
    • Click Start/Settings/Devices/Printers then click the newly installed printer.
    • Then click the Manage button then Printing Preferences
    • In Printing Preferences click the Basic Tab then the User Code button and enter your 5 digit access code. Then click OK. 
  4. Set Black and White printing as Default
    • In Printing Preferences Basic Tab Select Black and White in the Color Mode: box. 
    • Click OK
  5. Print as usual selecting this printer 

Mac OSX Users

  1. Install the printer driver
  2. Create a printer instance
    • Click the Apple icon in the top left and select System Settings/Printers & Scanners then click the Add printer button
    • Select IP and fill in the fields as follows (example below ChemEngPrinterMainOfficeE6) : 
      • Address : ChemEngPrinterMainOfficeE6.prt.uwaterloo.ca
      • Protocol : Line Printer Daemon - LPD
      • Queue    : lp_1
      • Name      : ChemEngPrinterMainOfficeE6
      • Location  : E6 3029
      • Use:
        • Click "Select Software ..." 
        • pick Ricoh IM 3010 PS select 
    • Click the Add button
  3. Add your User Code and set default to Black and White  
    • Print a document and select this printer
    • In the print dialog expand Print Options then select Job Log
    • In the Job Log dialog set the following optinos
      •  Job Type: Normal print
      • Enable User Code : check this option
      • User Code: enter your 5 digit   code
    • In the print dialog expand Print Options then select Printer Features
      • Set Color mode to Black and White
    • Click OK
    • Scroll up to the Presets and select Last Used Settings

Linux Users

  1. Install the Linux Printer driver ( example here is for chemengprintermainofficeE6)  
    • Visit IM C3010/C3510 Downloads | Ricoh Global and scroll down to the section Select OS and expand the Firmware/Other OS link  and then expand UNIX and click the Download button. Scroll to the bottom and click the Accept button. 
    • Right click the downloaded .tar file and select Extract Here
    • Browse the expanded folder then browse the Generic folder and then the Usermanual folder and then open the Usermanual file and search for C3010 which in the current case shows label DC060. 
    • Browse the Usermanual folder again an open the file DC060 and follow the instructions to install the Linux Driver 
      • From a Terminal window browse to the location of the expanded .tar file then cd Generic  and then run sudo ./unix_installer and follow the instructions. When prompted for the hostname or IP address enter ChemengprinterMainOfficeE6.prt.uwaterloo.ca
      • This will install CUPS and connect to the printer. At the end of installation you are instructed to visit http://www.linuxprinting.org to get the appropriate PPD file. Visit this site and click the Downloads menu link then PPD and download the PPD file Ricoh-IM_C3010_PS.ppd for the RIcoh IM C3010  from the PS folder there. 
      • Copy the PPD file to the /usr/share/cups/model and then in the Terminal window issue the command sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart

  2. Create a printer instance

    • Open the Printers application and click the Add Printer button. 

      • In the Enter a Network address type ChemEngPrinterMainofficeE6.prt.uwaterloo.ca and click the LPD-Printer that is found there and then click Add. 

      • In the Select Printer Driver button browse to the Ricoh section and select Ricoh IM C3010 PS

  3. Add User Code and set default Black and White prints 

    • from a terminal issue the following below where xxxxx is your user code

      cd /etc/cups/ppd
      sudo cat Ricoh-IM-C3010-PS.ppd | sed "/1001/xxxxx/g" ~Downloads/new.ppd 
      sudo mv Ricoh-IM-C3010-PS.ppd Ricoh-IM-C3010-PS-Old.ppd
      sudo mv ~/Downloads/new.ppd Ricoh-IM-C3010-PS.ppd

    • Open the Printers application and click Additional Print Settings

    • Double click the printer and click Print Options

      • Scroll to Basic and change Color mode to Black and white

      • Scroll to Job Log

        • Select the User Code pull down and select your User code
        • Click Apply then OK
    • Click Settings then Print Test Page to print a test page. 

How to Copy

To use the copying function  do the following:

  1. On the Ricoh touch panel if the screen is blank  tap the power icon ( lightning bolt image) in the top right corner to display the Copy/Scanner screen
  2. Tap the Copy button
  3. Enter your 5 digit User code then click OK
  4. After you have completed your copying work click the quarter moon icon in the top right corner to sign out of your account and blank the screen.  

How to Scan to Email

To scan a document to a pdf image and have that pdf file sent to your email address as an attachment do the following:

  1. On the Ricoh touch panel if the screen is blank  tap the power icon ( lightning bolt image) in the top right corner to display the Copy/Scanner screen
  2. Tap the Scan button
  3. Select Scan to Email
  4. Select your name in the Address book below the To field to add your email address  or tap the To field and select  Enter Using Keyboard to manually enter an email address
  5. Insert your documents and click the Start button to perform the scan to email.

You should then receive an email to the address entered in the To field containing a pdf attachment of the image that you scanned.

How To Print

You can print to this printer using the Wprint Self Serve Web service or directly from your local PC. 

Print Using Wprint Web Service

  1. Visit  the WPrint Web Page and click the Self Serve button and sign in with your userid@uwaterloo.ca credentials. 

  2. Select the Web Print menu option on the left then click the Submit a Job button

  3. Search for and select Chegradxerox printer then click the Print Options button

  4. Click the Upload Documents button then click the Upload from Computer button and select the files you want to print

  5. Click the Upload and Complete button 

  6. In the Web Print  page click the held in a queue link 

  7. In the Jobs Pending Release page click the print or cancel links OR

  8. Physically visit the printer location sign in and release the print job.

    1. Tap your Watcard on the Xerox console or tap the keyboard icon and type in your userid@uwaterloo.ca and sign in .

    2. Tap the Print Release button 

    3. Select the print job and tap the Print button

Print Directly from Local PC

Windows Users
  1. Ensure your computing device is connected to the campus network via a wired, wireless or UW VPN connection. 
  2. Type \\mediaprint2 in the Windows "Type here to search" box and then double click chegradxerox to begin the driver installation. 
    • If prompted for your credentials enter them as nexus\WatiamID
  3. Wait for the printer instance creation to complete. 
  4. Print as usual selecting this printer 
MAC OSX users
  1. From the website http://www.support.xerox.com/support/enus.html install the Xerox Mac OSX printer driver for the appropriate model of Workcentre ie Workcentre C8045/55 or C7030 found in the description column of the table above.
  2. Then follow these instructions to connect to the printer, create a printer instance and associate the above installed printer driver with this printer instance.
    • Use the URL smb://mediaprint2.private.uwaterloo.ca/chegradxerox when filling the URL: field of the Add Printer dialog.
    • Enter your Nexus userid followed by your Nexus password when prompted for credentials.

How to Copy

  1. Load your pages into the document feeder.
  2. Tap your Watcard on the Xerox console or tap the keyboard icon and type in your userid@uwaterloo.ca and sign in .
  3. Tap the Access Device button then Access Device
  4. Tap Copy and select your copy options then tap the Start button

How to Scan
