Chemical Engineering Graduate Student Association
All registered graduate students in the CHE department are considered members of CEGSA
- Connect with other Chemical Engineering grad students, have fun, and help shape your Waterloo experience with the Chemical Engineering Graduate Student Association (CEGSA)
What is CEGSA:
CEGSA is the graduate student association for all CHE graduate students. We represent CHE grads at the graduate student association (GSA) level and at the CHE department level where we seek the best interest of CHE grad students. We also aim to promote interactions between all CHE graduate students through a variety of events all year round (be on the lookout for them!).
Role of CHE:
- Promote social interaction among members, particularly between different research groups and M.Eng students.
- Work closely with our faculty and staff to ensure CHE grad students' concerns are considered (academic, administrative, and otherwise).
- Participate in the affairs and development of policies affecting graduate students at the University of Waterloo.

"My name is Yasmin Shabeer, and I am honoured to serve as the President of the Chemical Engineering Graduate Student Association (CEGSA). I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and am passionate about fostering a supportive and vibrant community for all of us in the department.
CEGSA is more than just an organization; it is a family that brings together graduate students through a variety of events and initiatives. From academic workshops to social gatherings and community service activities, our aim is to enhance your graduate experience and provide a platform where you can thrive both personally and professionally.
One of our key roles is to represent your interests and concerns to the department and the university. We work tirelessly to ensure that your voice is heard and that you have the resources and support you need to succeed. Whether it's advocating for better facilities, organizing networking opportunities, or simply creating spaces where you can unwind and connect with your peers, CEGSA is here for you.
On a personal note, my journey with CEGSA has been incredibly rewarding. Serving as your president has taught me invaluable leadership qualities, such as effective communication, teamwork, and resilience. I am continually inspired by the dedication and creativity of our amazing team. Together, we strive to make a positive impact and create lasting memories for everyone in our community.
Thank you for being part of this journey. I encourage you to get involved, share your ideas, and make the most of the opportunities that CEGSA offers. Let's continue to support each other and make our department a place where everyone feels welcome and empowered."
