ExpecTAtions is a two-day workshop that prepares Waterloo Engineering students to undertake a teaching assistantship. To serve as a TA, you are required to complete the ExpecTAtions workshop. After full attendance and successful completion of all required activities you will receive a certificate noting your achievement.
Over the two days, you will work in small, discipline-specific groups. Each group is assigned two mentors: one faculty member and one student with experience as a TA. These faculty and student mentors work closely with you to help prepare you for the TA role by sharing their valuable experiences and unique perspectives. Through a combination of small-group and online activities, you learn about the roles and responsibilities of TAs, practise giving lessons and marking student work, and examine the working relationships between TAs, professors and students.
