The Chemical Engineering Department is hosting a special industrial speaker seminar about Coding as a Chemical Engineer: For Fun and Profit.

Biography 

Caleb Bell is a Software Architect at Schlumberger, the world's largest oil & gas services company. He works on the steady-state, thermodynamics, and dynamics engines of the Symmetry process simulator. He is also the creator of four open source software packages that cover undergraduate fluid mechanics and heat transfer; as well as chemical properties and thermodynamics. He is passionate about improving the Process Industry with modeling; and bringing the 21st Century to Engineering Education.

Abstract

In this presentation, the speaker shares their personal journey of chemical engineering and coding. The talk covers how coding helps make chemical engineers more effective, delves into the details of how process simulators work behind the scenes, discusses future developments in the field, and provides insight into working at a process simulation group. Attendees gain a brief introduction to using the speaker's open-source libraries and are encouraged to learn Python, ultimately aiming to inspire them to add coding to their skill set.
