MASc Oral Exam | Functionalized Cellulose Nanocrystals with Enhanced Mucoadhesive Properties, by Fatemah Haji

Abstract:

Aquaculture farms across Canada face millions of dollars in losses every year due to parasitic infections, which is a cause for growing concern.

Current treatment methods are limited and have adverse effects on the aquatic ecosystem. Sustainable, targeted drug delivery systems offer a viable alternative to existing treatments. This research project aims to enhance the mucoadhesive capabilities of cellulose nanocrystals by surface modification for targeted drug delivery to fish mucosal surfaces.
