Abstract:
Demand for alternatives to plastic packaging is continually increasing. Paper products typically do not meet performance demands without coating them with a polymeric film. Replacing conventional plastic coatings with biopolymer alternatives can substantially improve product sustainability. In this thesis, two different waterborne dispersions are formed using unique biopolymers (PHBV & cellulose acetate) and stabilization mechanisms (traditional & Pickering). Both exhibited promising barrier properties for packaging applications.
