You are invited to a hybrid MASc Oral Exam where Grace Stephanie Parra Panchi will discuss her thesis on Analysis of integrated heating approaches for cold-start conditions in 21700 lithium-ion battery modules using 1D thermal simulation.
Abstract:
Cold ambient conditions reduce discharge capacity and slow lithium-ion battery warm-up, especially at low SOC. This study evaluates four heating strategies using 1D simulations across sub-zero temperatures and SOC levels.
Results show external heating combined with battery discharge offers the fastest warm-up. Self-heating is viable only at higher SOC and temperatures.
The findings support hybrid heating for reliable EV cold starts.
