Seminar - “The Evolution and Future of IGPC Ethanol Inc.”, by Rachel Murdy, Operations Manager, IGPC Ethanol Inc.

Thursday, April 6, 2017 3:30 pm - 3:30 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

ABSTRACT:   IGPC Ethanol located in Southwestern Ontario is a first generation corn to ethanol plant commissioned in September 2008. Today, IGPC produces 200 million litres of ethanol and 170,000 tonnes of distiller’s grains on a yearly basis, as well as 4,000 tonnes of corn oil for biodiesel production. Adoption of advancements in industry processing technologies, including ICM’s Selective Milling Technology and Fiber Separation Technology, has resulted in higher ethanol yield and throughput from its original nameplate capacity, as well as diversified its co-product streams. Other investments in sustainable power generation have included installation of a steam turbine generator and an internal combustion engine for cogeneration. Through these and other projects, IGPC has expanded its core ethanol platform and demonstrated its commitment to innovative green technology. With a new plant expansion project looking to double its production to 400 million litres in 2018, IGPC continues to be an industry leader in biofuels.

Bio-Sketch:  Dr. Rachel Murdy is IGPC Ethanol's Operations Manager overseeing day to day operations and providing technical due diligence on plant trials and new capital projects. IGPC Ethanol located in Southwestern Ontario is a corn to ethanol plant producing 200 million litres of ethanol and 170,000 tonnes of distiller’s grains per year, as well as 4,000 tonnes of corn oil for biodiesel production. Since joining IGPC in September 2014, Dr. Murdy has participated in business development and process-related activities dedicated to increasing the plant’s efficiency and diversify its revenue streams. She holds a BSc in Microbiology and an MSc in Plant Agriculture from the University of Guelph, as well as a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo. Prior to joining IGPC, Rachel was the lab coordinator of the University of Guelph's Bioproducts Discovery and Development Centre, a centre dedicated to finding value-added composite applications of agricultural residues and bio-based polymers.

Rachel is the Director of Industrial Liaison (East) on the Board of the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering, and advisor to the Board of Directors of the Ontario Biomass Producers Cooperative.
