Seminar - “High Performance Thin Film Deposition”, Mike Miller, Test & Process Manager, Angstrom Engineering Inc., Kitchener, ON

Thursday, September 14, 2017 3:30 pm - 3:30 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

ABSTRACT:  This talk will focus on presenting many of the new and exciting developments in thin film deposition technology which are required by many of today’s high performance applications, such as semiconductors, organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), organic and perovskite photovoltaics, superconducting and magnetic devices, precision optics, and more. Designing a deposition system capable of achieving world class performance requires a holistic approach which considers many factors; these factors will be individually presented and explored with support from real world case studies from various industries.

Bio-sketch:  I was born in Windsor, ON. I completed a B.Sc. in Chemistry at the University of Windsor in 2008, and a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Windsor in 2013. Studying under Dr. Tricia Carmichael, the title of my dissertation was ‘New Materials, Methods, and Molecules for Microelectronic and Molecular Electronic Devices’. This dissertation generated numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. Upon graduation, I started a small company (‘Substrata’ www.substratasolutions.com) with my colleague Stan Amyotte. After spending two years growing Substrata into a viable company, I transitioned into my current position with Angstrom Engineering in 2014. I currently serve as the Test and Process Engineering manager at Angstrom, overseeing system testing and quality assurance, as well as process and product development. I live in Kitchener with my wife, Jenn, and my twin boys Colin and Owen.
