Dr. Sumit Kundu, Hydrogen Fuel Cell Developer at Automotive Fuel Cell Cooperation
Sumit Kundu is a hydrogen fuel cell developer who works at Automotive Fuel Cell Cooperation (AFCC) in Metro Vancouver. Sumit completed his BSc, MSc and PhD studies at the University of Waterloo. His masters and doctoral studies were focused on fuel cell materials and degradation.
In 2008, Sumit started at AFCC as a researcher and initiated AFCC’s first Department of Energy collaboration with 3M. Over the years, he took on several product development roles, including the design of anode electrodes; project lead for CCM and electrode materials; manager of the Validation, Testing and Characterization team; and, most recently, manager of the Unit Cell and Architecture team. His work at AFCC has culminated in the state-of-the-art fuel cell stacks now used in the Mercedes GLC series vehicles.
Sumit received the Sandford Fleming Award for Academic Excellence while at Waterloo, and he has more than 21 refereed publications and 6 patent applications. He is a Project Management Professional, Engineer in Training with APEGBC, and aspiring coach. He also holds a certificate in university teaching through the Waterloo's Teaching Resources and Continuing Education Office, now known as the Centre for Teaching Excellence.
Fun fact: Sumit and his wife starred in an episode of The Property Brothers in 2013.
