Welcome to the Department of Chemical Engineering (ChE) at the University of Waterloo. We are a dynamic community of students, staff and faculty dedicated to our core mission of education and research, and to each other through relationships founded on respect and collaboration.
We are part of a world where population growth, economic development, and increased demands for energy, food and healthcare all exert increasing pressures on natural resources and the environment. As Chemical Engineers - experts in the chemical, physical and biological transformations of materials and energy at industrial scales - we commit our expertise to advancing sustainable development through our teaching and research.
Our department is home to more than 600 talented undergraduate students pursuing the Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree in Chemical Engineering and enrolled in Waterloo’s world-renowned co-operative education program. Our department is also home to undergraduate students pursuing the BASc degree in Nanotechnology Engineering – a degree delivered in collaboration with the departments of Chemistry and Electrical & Computer Engineering. Additionally, we collaborate with other departments within the Faculty of Engineering to deliver the BASc degree in Biomedical Engineering.
Our department is also home to almost 200 creative graduate students committed to tackling complex challenges as they prepare for careers in academic, government, or corporate environments. We offer highly regarded and unique Master of Engineering Co-op and regular Master of Engineering (MEng) programs (with various specializations), as well as research-based Master of Applied Science (MASc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs.
I invite you to explore our website to learn more about our department. Whether you’re thinking of joining us for the first time, or you’ve been one of our graduate or undergraduate students already, I look forward to connecting with you!
