CHE 3MT competition reveals exciting research

Thursday, February 6, 2020

Congratulations to Christopher Deutschman, Keith Cleland and Sabrina Mattiasi for their first-, second- and third-place finishes in Chemical Engineering’s Three Minute Thesis (3MT) department heat on February 4th.

Each received a cash prize, the opportunity to feature their accomplishment on their CV and, like everyone in the competition, the long-lasting benefit of having a brief response to the frequently heard question “What are you researching?”

Eleven graduate students presented their research to a packed room, demonstrating how they are using chemical engineering to help solve some of the problems we all share. In the process of delivering their three minute presentations, using one static PowerPoint slide and language that could be understood by the general public, each presenter displayed excellent communications skills, a thorough understanding of their research and the power to engage with the audience quickly.

Christopher will deliver his 3MT presentation, Copper-Nanoparticle Decorated Cellulose Nanocrystals for Use in Combatting Drug-Resistant Bacteria, again when he competes against the other departmental and Faculty finalists in the University-wide competition on March 26, 2020.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Chemical Engineering 3MT competition for sharing your research.
