How do you decide what is safe to put on your body? Jenise Lee, a Chemical Engineering alumna (BASc 2006), provides the information you need to make educated choices about your skincare products.

Jenise has founded two companies that raise awareness of skincare creams and other products formulated without potentially harmful chemicals:

  1. CertClean, a certification company that vets skincare products for ingredients such as carcinogens and chemicals that may damage hormonal, reproductive or neurological systems.
  2. Purpicks, an online customer review platform that has the world’s largest database of organic skincare items and reviews.

Her efforts are gaining recognition: Purpicks was named one of the Top 5 startups in Canada in Alibaba’s global pitch competition. Lee herself was bestowed a Canada’s Clean 50 Award for her sustainability efforts in the retail sector, honoured as one of Canada's Top 100 Health Influencers and nominated for the Governor General's Innovation Award.
