The Department of Chemical Engineering’s hosted its Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition on February 28th. The enthusiasm of the students – in the audience and at the podium – showed why this exciting event remains so popular.
Congratulations to the following people for their winning presentations:
- First: Kiana Amini, for Redox Flow Batteries for Energy Storage Applications
- Second: John Kong, for Smart Energy Systems: Developing Energy Infrastructure for the Future
- Third: Prachi Panchal, for Photo-degradation of Epoxy Through Modified CNC
For her first-place finish, Kiana will complete against the other departmental and Faculty finalists in the University-wide competition that will be held on March 201, 2019 from 3:00 to 4:30pm in Theatre of the Arts in the Modern Languages building.
Each winner received a cash prize, the opportunity to feature their accomplishment on their CV and, like everyone in the competition, the long-lasting benefit of having a succinct and entertaining response to the oft-heard question “So, what is your research about?”
3MT Talents
In the 3MT competition, graduate students share their research quickly and succinctly, using one static PowerPoint slide and language that can be understood by the general public.
They demonstrate excellent communications skills, keen understanding of their research and ability to engage with the audience. Not coincidentally, those are the exact talents that our panel of judges scrutinize as they watch the presentations, looking to determine the top three finalists in the competition.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Chemical Engineering 3MT competition – and thank you for sharing your research.
