A toast to the graduating class! Here’s to the future, and to the leaders of tomorrow! Our chemical engineering graduating class has exemplified resilience, determination, and true grit as they have navigated earning their degree during the pandemic. They persevered during two years of lockdowns, online learning, and virtual lab work to achieve their undergraduate degrees.
We are proud to honour our graduates who continue to strive to manifest their greatest potential! University of Waterloo’s Department of Chemical Engineering marked this milestone with the first in-person Grad Toast since the pandemic began!
The event took place in the Ideas Clinic in E7 on April 6th. The students were elated to be gathered in person as a graduating class. The mood of the celebration was jubilant as the students were treated to a pizza lunch. It was wonderful to see them all gathered together sharing a meal, a small measure of normalcy amidst the sixth wave of the pandemic.
Excitement mounted as Department Chair, Marios Ioannidis announced the winners of this year’s Capstone Design Projects. Cheers and applause erupted as the winning teams stood to enjoy their moment in the spotlight. After the winning teams were announced the class was surprised with showers of colourful confetti! The graduating class was treated to a scrumptious ice cream bar complete with peanut butter cups, sprinkles, and caramel sauce for all to enjoy!
The joyous occasion was celebrated by presenting each graduate with a special gift which included a wine glass, a sparkling beverage, and a sumptuous collection of chocolate from a local chocolatier. The graduates also received an adorable Grogu mug with a congratulatory graduation message.
The end of the celebration was marked with fun photos being taken in front of a 2022 sign filled with balloons. There were smiles all around as the class gathered for a final class picture!
Congratulations to our 2022 Graduating class! We are so proud of you all!
