The Royal Society of Canada has awarded the prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal to Prof. Garry Rempel from the Department of Chemical Engineering. This award "is an expression of appreciation for significant contributions to scholarship, arts and science, as well as the invaluable services rendered to one's peers and one's community."

The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal was created in 2012 to mark the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada.
