Students racing out of the parking lot of E6

The race begins

Eleven teams of second-year students competed against each other for fun and prizes in the Chemical Engineering Student Society’s (CESS) version of the Amazing Race. The teams were off to a flying start from the parking lot of E6 to complete seven legs of the race.

The competition began with bocce ball and sandbag throwing. From there the teams split up, racing to different locations across the campus, tasked with solving clues given to them at each leg of the race.

 Fun at the four-legged race

Competitors had to bind themselves together for a four-legged race and operate remote-controlled cars with their eyes closed. Their challenges ranged from egg races to tying sailing knots. The students were given clues by faculty, staff, and CESS volunteers.

The race ended in the E7 event space where Faculty members were waiting to greet the teams with a pizza dinner for the racers.

It was wonderful to see the students so engaged and having fun at an in-person event! "The unity between the Chemical Engineering Department and the Chemical Engineering Student Society to ensure these students take with them such blissful memories showcase the importance of student well-being at our university", said Abin Varghese President of CESS. "It was a privilege to be among them and to see everyone take a break and enjoy their time here at Waterloo."

CESS will be hosting more in-person events including an upcoming semi-formal. Visit their Instagram for information.
